PALOMA BARHAUGH-BORDAS

Smoke Signals

The exhibition, Smoke Signals, is the result of a year-long collaboration with artist Genevieve Lowe. Together, we generated five prompts for collective art-making and produced prints, sculpture, written text, and printed matter in response. The exhibition engendered a discussion of collective-making, relationships to land and place, and the historical use of prints as mobile devices for information dissemination across cultures and distances. We continue to send postcard-sized prints to one another, scanning the images after each translation. A printed version was made into an interactive flag book for the exhibition. The postcards are a material archive of our work.
